I have decided to organize a little something-something to celebrate this important day:

In cooperation with the South Side Slopes Neighborhood Association, we are going to have a little grassroots cleanup of a park on the South Side Slopes. I was recently introduced to "Bandi Shaum Park," & realized what a jewel it is! It is hidden off of Mission Street, complete with a ball field & spectacular view of downtown Pittsburgh. The thing is, though, that this park is the victim of serious litterbugs. Think middle-of-nowhere Pennsylvania, Pennsyl-tucky illegal dumping-type litter. From bottles to clothes dryers, there is a plethora of junk spoiling this precious woodsy spot in our urban environment.

So, here's the deal:
We will begin at 10am on Saturday. Although the SSSNA may have some extra gloves, please bring your own if you can. Also, please bring some water or other refreshing beverage to keep yourself hydrated. We will provide garbage bags. We will meet at the Mission St. Water Authority Parking Lot (you should be able to park there, too) by the entrance to the park."

So, a couple of choices. A majority of the SSSNA Board volunteers will be at the Trash Bash, as we commited to this event, for the second time. I will be in the Slopes to deliver gloves & orange vests and meet & work with Candace and her friends. You are all welcome to help out at either cleanup. The point - to clean up our neighborhood! If you have a Slopes Safety green shirt, please wear it! You will see me in mine. If you need one, call me. Happy Earth Day!!!!!
