Koch, 43, of Arlington, said they intend to seek the Democratic nomination.

Krane, who runs a temporary services business in Pittsburgh, sent out e-mails seeking campaign contributions from supporters.

Koch works as a Public Works truck driver, owns a landscaping and contracting business and is a city Democratic committee member.

University of Pittsburgh political science student Jason A. Phillips, 24, of the South Side, told City Council he would run as a Green Party candidate.

Others who have said they intend to run once Ricciardi resigns to start work as a district judge in January are Democrats Bruce Kraus, South Side Chamber of Commerce president; Patrick Sweeney, a public defender from the South Side; Ed Jacob, president of the South Side Slopes Neighborhood Association; District Judge Eileen Conroy, of Oakland; and Libertarian Mark Rauterkus, an unemployed political activist from the South Side.

All are unofficial candidates because they can't file the necessary paperwork to run until Ricciardi officially resigns, according to the Allegheny County Elections Division.

The District 3 council seat covers Allentown, Arlington, Arlington Heights, Beltzhoover, Carrick, South Oakland, Knoxville, Mt. Oliver, the South Side, St. Clair and part of Mt. Washington.

Jeremy Boren can be reached at jboren@tribweb.com or (412) 765-2312.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7481330.post-1133959109001695002005-12-07T07:38:00.000-05:002005-12-07T07:38:00.000-05:00PG article: Candidates line up to replace Councilm...PG article: Candidates line up to replace Councilman Ricciardi

Wednesday, December 07, 2005

Pittsburgh Councilman Gene Ricciardi isn't expected to resign his seat until next month, but there's already a crowded field of candidates seeking to replace him.

Jason Phillips, 24, of the South Side Flats, came before City Council yesterday to announce his candidacy under the Green Party banner.

Jeffrey S.
