(Gotta tell ya, when I see AMERICAN underlined in all caps in the subject, my propaganda radar starts beeping.)

I highly recommend checking out these forwarded "warning" emails before passing on the "information"! Snopes.com is a good place to start, and apparently this one has been circulating for 3 years now.

http://www.snopes.com/politics/gasoline/saudigas.asp

GenevaAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7481330.post-31313993006008300262008-03-16T16:25:00.000-04:002008-03-16T16:25:00.000-04:00Sorry, but I am going to point out the obvious her...Sorry, but I am going to point out the obvious here.

If we only bought from suppliers of American gasoline, the refineries would quickly (a week, maybe in days??), not be able to supply America's appetite for oil. The only way to reduce our dependency on foreign oil is to use less, much much less of it. That includes what you put in your gas tank, and making dramatic efficiencies in home, office, agricultural, and manufacturing use of electricity. I think gas will reach about $8.00 a gallon before the average American will just begin to realize this...

-wAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7481330.post-35505484444209730672008-03-16T16:24:00.000-04:002008-03-16T16:24:00.000-04:00It is important that we understand that (a) Hugo C...It is important that we understand that (a) Hugo Chavez is not a dictator – he has been elected in what were described by international monitors as free and fair elections more than once, which is more that we in the U.S. can say about our own last couple of presidential elections; (b) Chavez has made it very clear that he does not “hate America”, he does, however, despise the current criminal/neocon dominated administration which has plotted at least two coups in an attempt to overthrow him; and, (c) “we” do not pay anything directly to Venezuela, the international conglomerate oil companies which purchase the oil from Venezuela fork-over the dollars. Venezuela has, on multiple occasions, provided heating oil at below market cost to low-income communities in the U.S. when our own government was cutting back on heating assistance to these same communities. Hugo Chavez, to be sure, has many flaws – just not the ones cited in this e-mail.

Propaganda is propaganda wherever it is generated, we just have a tendency to believe that our own must be true – more often than not, it is not. It might be helpful if we were to take a close look at the many ruthless dictatorships the U.S. government is officially supporting in our ongoing efforts to insure a continuing supply of gasoline for our suburban SUV lifestyle. These include such luminaries as: Saudi Arabia; Nigeria; Sudan; Uzbekistan; Kazakhstan; Kuwait; United Arab Emirates; Libya; Columbia (a U.S. puppet regime); etc. These are governments to which hundreds of billions of dollars of your tax money is being sent in the form of direct and indirect military aid – and this doesn’t even include the trillion dollar plus expenditure known as Operation Iraqi Liberation (OIL – the actual original operation name).

JohnAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7481330.post-31057809222327064032008-03-16T10:36:00.000-04:002008-03-16T10:36:00.000-04:00This is false.
