Link to the form for kids and guardians to fill out is here.

Mothers and Government Reporting

The research reported, ... "that most women wanted 2.2 kids in their lifetime, the researchers said this is down slightly from a 2002 survey."

We have two kids. But, I'm not sure my wife is like most women who desire 2.2 kids.

Go figure.

Mike --

A few weeks ago, the Star-Ledger reported that New Jersey's combined pension portfolio lost more than $6 billion last year as hedge fund returns plummeted. These hedge fund managers are paid millions of dollars in fees, compounding the losses for taxpayers and retirees.

In 2015 alone, New Jersey paid $270 million in fees to hedge fund managers -- $142 million of which was given without regard to return.

The days of padding the pockets of a few lucky and connected Wall Street insiders with taxpayer money needs to end, and as governor, I will see they do. Say you're with me.

Our investment strategy doesn't need to be complex; it simply needs to be commonsense. But the single most important thing we can do to bring the funds back to health is for the state to finally pay its true share, and allow those investments to grow over the long term.

In addition to the pension system, our state currently deposits billions of dollars in revenues in big banks -- which overwhelmingly do not invest in New Jersey's communities.

My plan takes some of that money out of Wall Street and puts it to work through a public bank owned by the people of New Jersey -- which will allow our state to make critical investments in infrastructure, small businesses, and student loans. It will also save our residents money and return all profits to the taxpayers.

NOW LET'S GET PHILLY, PITTSBURGH AND PENNSYLVANIA

ON BOARD !!

Who's really supporting Donald Trump

John posted to me and others:

I urge everyone to read the attached ARTICLE from The Guardian newspaper as it is both timely and, I believe, very important if we are to come to grips with who we as a people really are.

The author examines just who the Trump supporters really are; and, at the same time, excoriating main stream media both for its failure to identify the breadth of Trump’s support and claiming it is comprised mainly of poor “white trash” uneducated folk who just aren’t smart enough to see what’s really at stake in the election. The article supports my belief that much of his support is coming from middle and upper-middle class mainly white folks with a rather different perspective on the state of the nation as well as a very different viewpoint on how things should be run. It also discusses the fact that many more elements of society were and still are impacted by the financial crisis than is commonly reported or believed. One of the most important elements addressed in the article is who really is racist in our society and how this is not the subject of media coverage. This is not a trivial point and should be examined in greater depth than is offered when filtered through the biases which dominate main stream media.

Fwd: Something new, Saturday Swim School at Oliver High School, Northside

Hi Friends in and around Pittsburgh,

Time to invite you to join in with a new venture of mine, Saturday Swim School. Let's gather at the pool, get in some fitness, enjoy some aquatic games, to teach and learn with kids how to play well with others,

Saturday Swim School activities are on the Northside at Oliver High School, 2323 Brighton Road, 15212.

Enter the swim pool area of Oliver High School from the door by the gym past the loading dock. Easy parking in the lot.

9 am = Triathletes & Varsity Swimmers (especially adults & high school ages)
10 am = Disk-based, aquatic games, cross-training, (think easy water polo and fun) for high school and adult participants.
11:30 - NOON = Swim Lesson for All   Middle school students should arrive.
Noon to 1 pm = Middle School aquatic games with mentors welcome too.

1 pm to 1:45 pm is Underwater Hockey for Rookies, Adults, and Varsity Swimmers. (No Underwater Hockey this weekend, 10/15/2016, as the Pittsburgh team is traveling to an out of town tournament.)

No fees. No transportation. No web site yet, but it is coming.

This is a labor of love as a proof of concept to display how quality programs among citizens can and should occur at our schools in out-of-school time.

Join in.

I'm interested in establishing a sustainable programto bridge engagement for kids throughout the winter who have experienced SUMMER DREAMERS with us in the past. But, there is plenty of room for more students and families. Plus, we'll be training lifeguards and swim instructors for future summer program expansion.

---
FYI: No Saturday Swim School on Halloween weekend (as I'm going to a college parents weekend) nor on Thanksgiving weekend.
---

Feel free to pass along the invite and call, text or email me if you have any questions.

Fwd: Preparing for 2017 . . . and beyond

---------- Forwarded message ----------
From: John Hemington
Date: Mon, Oct 10, 2016 at 7:55 PM

Well, we'd better be getting prepared for Hillary to ascend to the throne of the Empire next January.  Her neocon allies are already hitting the pavement pushing for the removal of Putin as President of Russia – if not a direct military attack on Russia (see second attachment).  Hillary has pretty much indicated that this sort of policy is right in her wheelhouse.  She'll likely begin with the establishment of a " no-fly zone" in Syria.  This will almost certainly bring the U.S. or one of our surrogates in direct conflict with Russia.  The U.S. propaganda ministry has been operating overtime to convince our citizens and the rest of the world that Russia is the criminal aggressor in Syria.  And we should all be aware that, no matter how we may feel about the Assad regime, it is still the internationally recognized government of Syria; and, as such, has invited Russia to lawfully be in the country fighting the so-called rebel forces sponsored by the U.S. and NATO countries (see first attachment).  Thus, the U.S. and all of the rest are in the position of being international war criminals operating in clear violation of international law such as it is these days.

In Syria as in other areas of the Middle East the U.S. has been operating in an effective alliance – supplying arms, ammunition and other support to al Qaeda and its various offshoot organizations such as the al Nusra front in an illegal effort to overthrow the Assad regime all the while claiming that we are fighting against ISIS.  This is a proxy war that does not bode well for either the U.S. or for the world.  There are now multiple high ranking military officers, up to and perhaps including the Secretary of Defense, strongly advocating a direct assault on Russia.  This would, of course be the height of folly and might well result in the termination of human life on earth – although perhaps quicker and less painful than waiting for climate change to play out in a century or two.

In this the collective hubris of the neocon crowd is beyond measure and belief, but that has never stopped them before.  They were, after all, the primary force behind the illegal war on Iraq in 2003 and continuing, as well as Libya and now Syria.  The fact that it also generates vast wealth from government coffers to the defense industry and multitudes of private contractors taking advantage of the virtually bottomless pit of welfare being dispensed provides political momentum.  It is also enabled by very fact of a volunteer military which is also incentivized by endless war in which promotions are frequent and, for senior officers, lucrative positions with contractors, lobbyists and as "color commentators" for cable TV are sure to follow.

Unfortunately little attention is given in the media or otherwise to the massive death, destruction, displacement and terror which is imposed on those in the countries we choose to assault in the name of freeing them from terrible dictators and imposing democracy – whether or not anything like democracy ever follows.  Nor is any real thought given to those American volunteers sacrificed to the Empire's war machine.  The only time casualties really seem to matter is when they can be blamed – whether true or not – on the supposed enemy whoever it might be this week.  The important condition is that the wars must go on.  Too much is a stake for peace to be permitted to break out; too much wealth to be forfeited.

This is the price of Empire.  The boundaries must always be expanded and defended; and the enemies are always at hand.  More importantly, if there are no convenient enemies some must be found or created otherwise the populace might become restive and revolt.  In this empire, just like many in the past, the real fruits gradually fail to be distributed to the masses at home as the oligarchs and plutocrats hoard the spoils to themselves.  But this Empire is even more different from most past empires in that there don't really appear to be many spoils from battlefields and conquered provinces.  The wealth that is accumulated is mainly taken from the citizens of the "homeland" and therein lies a potential fatal flaw.  Once the mass of the people figure out just how they are being scammed and abused by their leaders they are likely to refuse to cooperate – and empires, no matter how powerful do not survive forever.

We are, I believe, now seeing the beginnings of such anger arising in the current election cycle.  Most of those long frustrated at being left behind still haven't come to realize why exactly their situation is as it is, but they at least recognize that the deck is stacked against them by their putative leaders and they don't want more of the same.  Most of us still remain victims of the Empire's propaganda machine which incessantly inveighs us to blame and fight one another.  Still, there is just a glimmer of recognition beginning to develop that the real problem is not down here among the "little people", as our politicians are fond of terming the rest of us, but up there among those who serve the masters of the machine as well as the masters themselves.

Unfortunately the neocon space cadets, none of whom have ever served their nation in the military, may manage to get us all annihilated before there is enough sentiment aroused to take down the Empire and return the nation to the people.  But, until that time, we must work to resist and overcome these forces of death and destruction.  It is not much hope, but it is all there is.

First Water Polo Game scheduled: Sunday October 23, 2016

Are you ready for some water polo? We'll go to North Allegheny on October 23, 2016.

Our teams of middle school water polo players are getting ready for the first real games. We've called our team, "Pittsburgh Combined" in the past. In 2016-17 we've got players from Manchester Academic Charter School, where we play two days a week for boys and another two days a week for girls. Plus, we have been playing at Pittsburgh Obama, co-ed, on Mondays and Fridays; Arsenal, co-ed on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Our Saturday Swim School can help with water polo practices. Kids from The Pittsburgh Project can join in too. Plus, we've got our 2016 Summer Dreamers who had 27 days of water polo in July and August as well.

If you want your kid to attend, email to Mark@Rauterkus.com, or call, 412-298-3432.

We want to car-pool from Pittsburgh with departing times at noon and arrival to North Allegheny Senior High School, on Rt. 19, at 12:45 pm on October 23, 2016.

Let's Get to 1 Million Signatures

Don't Back Down
As of today, our petition to #LetGaryDebate has been signed by more than 860,000 supporters.

Help us reach 1 million and we will deliver them to the Commission on Presidential Debates.

The CPD may have excluded us from the first debate, but we can still get on the stage in October.
Yesterday, for example, a poll shows us at 14% in Pennsylvania, up 2 points from less than 2 weeks ago -- despite our name not being included in the top line of questions. And we are polling 15% or higher now in 15 other states.

Already Signed? You can still help get us there:

There is no doubt, we are the ONLY campaign with upward momentum.

That's why more and more respected leaders continue to call on the CPD to #LetGaryDebate.

They know that we are the ONLY campaign that is offering an honest and positive alternative to the Donald v. Hillary hate fest.
FORWARD THIS EMAIL
Johnson - Keep Fighting
There will be more debates. There will be more polls. And we fully intend to fight our way onto the stage in the second debate.

Taking on both aisles of the establishment is not easy. But we can do it.
Hillary will call Donald an egomaniac. Donald will call Hillary a crook.

We will keep making history. We will get on that debate stage.

And America will have a brighter and more positive future.
Chip In $15 to Help Us Promote the Petition

I Won't Back Down,

Gov. Gary Johnson

PS: Tell the CPD that America will not be silenced by making a contribution of $15 or more to #LetGaryDebate.

The venue address is below if you need to use Google Maps or your preferred navigation system to assist with directions. The posted detour signs might not be the best route for everyone.

Also, the Liberty Mile race will be happening Saturday Morning and will impact Penn Avenue, Liberty Avenue, and 11th street. Please refer to the course map and we recommend avoiding those streets. http://www.libertymile.org/Files/Admin/2016-Liberty_Mile_Course_Loop.pdf

PARKING

There are many parking lots around the Art Institute, but we recommend the following garage, which is right across the street from the Art Institute and only $6 for the day:

LiveCode 8.1 Released: Fast Networking and sFTP Support

8.1 is available now and has a ton of great new features for you.
View this email in your browser

8.1: A Major Minor Feature Release

We are delighted to announce the release of LiveCode 8.1. As the first significant release post 8.0, it has a raft of important new features for you as well as refinements, enhancements and the usual herculean bug squishing efforts.
New Networking Layer
This release brings you a vast improvement in the networking speed and capabilities of LiveCode. The new tsNet networking layer, included in LiveCode Indy and LiveCode Business, can speed up networking operations anywhere between 3x and 250x, depending on the type of operation. As it wraps the existing networking commands you will not need to rewrite any code, you will automatically benefit from this improvement. The new layer also adds support for additional protocols such as sFTP, SMTP and TLS. For full details please go here.
Auto include inclusions
Have you ever had the experience that your app works perfectly when running in the IDE, but when you build the final standalone it suddenly stops working? Was it because you forgot to include some vital component that your app needed to run? If so, you are not alone. 8.1 to the rescue. It now automatically searches for and includes any extensions or libraries your app needs. Read more about this new feature here.
Goodbye Quicktime
Also in this release, for multimedia playback, the Player Object has been replaced by a new player object using Directshow instead of Quicktime. Dependency on Quicktime is removed by this new player. Read more here.
LCB Enhancements
The Infinite LiveCode project has made good progress, with consequent enhancements to LiveCode Builder. Variables now get initialised by default, unsafe blocks and handlers can be used to flag sections of code that do dangerous things, and you can even include raw bytecode if necessary.
Love for the IDE
The IDE has lots of other upgrades, too: a keyboard-navigable Project Browser that highlights any scripts that failed to compile, a beautified dictionary user interface, and access to the message box just by starting to type. It even colorises your script as you type.
New Extension Added
You can now access HealthKit on iOS to integrate activity, sport and health data on iOS devices (requires an Indy or Business license). Additionally, the SVG widget has new scaled width and height properties, and the Line Graph widget now supports a scatter plot of data and a variety of new styles.

And Even More
There are dozens of other smaller features added in this version, explore the release notes for an exhaustive list. Worth checking out:
  • GPS location history system for Android and iOS
  • list files and folders without changing the current folder
  • "filter" now works on arrays
  • extended new "return" syntax lets you write functions & commands that set "it"
  • appropriate resize cursors now show when dragging to change stack size
Fixes and enhancements
157 specific fixes and enhancements were made between LiveCode 8.0.2 and 8.1. Since the release of 8.0 a grand total of 220 bugs have been fixed, leading to a better, smoother, happier coding experience.

This release is now available from your LiveCode account, or you can download here
