Fwd: Submit Your Video to PCTV!

Looking for something different to do? 
Make a video and send it to PCTV!

PCTV is looking for ways to help people get their voice heard during this difficult time. This is an open call to the Pittsburgh community to make a video and send it to PCTV. We'd LOVE TO air your content on PCTV's channel. Create content on your phone, computer, Zoom/Skype/Google Hangouts/WebEx /iPad or any other device or app that records audio and video, and then send it to us,


We want to know how you are dealing with COVID-19 closures, restrictions and isolation: how are you coping, what are you doing, and what strategies have you used to keep calm, clean and safe during this stressful time? Have a funny story? Have a good tip? Want to teach people how to do yoga in their living room?

Record a video and share it with the community! Now more than ever, your voice matters!
If you don't know how, learn how to record or edit a video using the resources below:


Ideally, your video would be HD (1920x1080, 48k audio, with a 29.97 frame rate, but if you aren't sure how to make that happen, send us what you have and we will convert it for you.

Then, submit your video to PCTV electronically by sending us a direct file link from Dropbox, Google Drive or YouTube to pctv21programs@gmail.com. For assistance on how to do this, please contact Gladys Jelks at gladys@pctv21.org.

If you are a current PCTV community producer who wants to re-air a show from what is already available in our programming system, send an e-mail to gladys@pctv21.org with Resubmission Process in the subject line. You will receive a list of available programming along with resubmission directions.
 
Please note that we cannot accept files via DVD, flash or external hard drives at this time. Submissions must be electronic only at this time.

Tips for our times
 

As you all know, Covid-19 is having an enormous impact on our lives right now. Work and social routines are significantly disrupted and sporting activity across the country, from community sport to high performance sport, has come to a halt. This isolating period is likely to be challenging for everyone, and it will challenge us to be inventive with how we stay physically active. Of course, for coaches and participants, there is nothing more frustrating than not being able to do what you love. So from us at NZ Coach Mag, here are some tips on how coaches can make use of this unexpected break in sport.

Tip 1: Read


For a start, there are dozens of great books on coaching and coaches. You can find a few here. Or, find a scientific article on an area of coaching that interests you. For example, go to Science for Sport. Of course, scientific articles can be long and impenetrable, so it might be helpful to watch 'How to read a research article quickly'.
 
 
 

Tip 2: Reflect

Reflection is a key piece in the 'how do I keep getting better' puzzle. So, take the opportunity to reflect on your coaching and identify an aspect of coaching you would like to improve, and why. Or perhaps consider how you would like to be coaching in five years. Read one coach's story about how reflective practice helped them here.

 

Tip 3: Connect

Connect with your club and team. Setup a Facebook page or Whatsapp group if you haven't already and check in regularly to give each other a boost. You could run a remote training or workout session, and doing a photo competition is another good idea. Try to be creative and stay connected with your team.

 
 
 

Tip 4. Ring

Call or Skype another coach you know, perhaps one at your own club or school, and have a conversation about coaching. Ask questions of each other like: Why do you coach? What has coaching taught you? What energises you about coaching? Share some tools or resources. And maybe even discuss what collaboration might look like. Tip 5. Register

Register for an online course. There are many sites (for example Coursera) offering free and self-paced courses on a huge range of subjects, including coaching-related subjects (e.g. Sport Psychology) for different levels of experience. Here are a few places to start looking:

Tip 6. Relax 

Take some time to relax and be inspired by watching a great movie on coaching. Or watch a short, funny coaching video. Laughter, as they say, is the best medicine.
