Highly recommended movie on the environment, as per John H

I have not yet watch this movie, but it is on my list due to John H's suggestion.

Michael Moore has produced a new movie, Planet of Humans, about the environmental movement now streamed on YouTube.  One in which he (thankfully) does not appear.  It is exceptional – well worth the hour and forty minutes it runs and do watch all of the credits as they contain additional information.

Josh went from the sandlots of Pittsburgh's North Side to the pinnacle of greatness in the Negro Leagues, before ultimately being enshrined in the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, NY.

Join the The Josh Gibson Foundation, Pittsburgh Opera, The Battle of Homestead Foundation, and Steel Valley School District on Thursday, February 23, 2017, 7:00 PM, for a preview community event at the Steel Valley High School Auditorium featuring some of the cast, a few local pro athletes and a program about Homestead's role in fostering the Negro Leagues and stars like Hall of Famer Josh Gibson.

The man who mentored Jack Kemp as an anti-poverty crusader has teamed up with the man whom Jack Kemp mentored into politics to produce a mini-series called Comeback. Robert Woodson and Paul Ryan produced Comeback and used it to take viewers into the toughest neighborhoods in America, and show them groups of people who are solving the social ills of the inner city poor from within and below. Comeback shines the light on the people that Woodson calls “community antibodies.” Community antibodies are the neighborhoods’ organic defense against threats such as violence, addiction, and social break-down. Comeback is not really much of a public policy series, and even less of a politics series. But I think it leads the sensitive viewer to some pretty clear policy and political conclusions: that the welfare state has failed, that the people who know the most about these communities learned what they know by growing up in them (not by studying monographs in grad school), that government has made things worse, that to the degree that government can play a constructive role, it is to empower the local community leaders (not shills, pols, and grievance merchants, or activists) to have more degrees of freedom in what they are already doing, helping people escape misery one at a time from the inside out...

Yesterday, on election day, Kevin Acklin, I, went to the Allegheny County Election Department. He passed the papers necessary to get onto the ballot for the mayor's race in November 2009 as an Independent.

Today, the bashing has begun.

Gangloff said those commitments include putting on swim clinics and giving talks at schools. The popularity that swimming received at the 2008 Olympic Games has allowed him to go into schools and deliver positive speeches and be a role model for children.
But other than speeches and swim clinics, Gangloff and his fellow Olympians said non-Olympic years consist mostly of training, just a little more relaxed than what they have to do to prepare for the Olympics.
