Fwd: Mark, see you in London this year?

--- Forwarded message ----

View this email in your browser

2021 has arrived and I hope this message finds you well and in good spirits.

The Uxbridge Folk Club in Hillingdon (West London), England has invited me to perform for their online concert series!  The very first solo show I did in the UK was at this club, so it holds a special place in my heart.  I will probably focus on some of my songs that have a connection to the British Isles in one way or another, and the show time should be convenient for my British and European friends (8pm London time, and 9pm on the Continent).  As usual, the concert is free to watch on YouTube Live, but donations are very welcome!  If you sign in to YouTube you can participate in the chat.

Hope to "see" you there,
Dave

Youth Jobs deadline and a big story request from Mark@Rauterkus.com

Hi Friends and Fellow Travelers in these times of Protests and a Global Pandemic:

CYBER SWIM CAMP as part of Pittsburgh Public Schools Summer Dreamers should deliver 27 days of literacy, math and swimming -- all from the comfort of your living room. All virtual.

HELP! This is my call to you and yours -- as we want to have "STORY TIME" as part of our CYBER SWIM CAMP for 4th and 5th graders. I hope to collect 30 or more, 5-minute stories with something to do about water.

Can you share a story, please?

Story should have a start, middle and end. Use your phone record it. Don't need any slides, just a story that can keep the attention of the students and be a launch point for more discussions about vocabulary, challenges, water, safety, fun, by-gone days, whatever.

Example stories are assembled at https://S6.CLOH.org/category/story

Deadline for families in the city schools to apply for that program (up to grade 5) is pressing in the next hours.

- - - -

Youth in Pittsburgh and Allegheny County have one more day to finish their applications for the job program targeted to income qualified individuals giving 6 weeks of work at 25-hours at minimum wage. Age range is 14-21. Deadline pushed to June 6, 2020.

The number of applications might be at an all time low as it has been hard to reach and obtain the applications to work from the students without school visits.

I was hoping to get some youth, especially athletes, interested in work with me and my digital projects with publishing content on swimming, sports, fitness and wellness at web pages, their own sites, collaborative concept maps, and more. https://Earn.CLOH.org

Lifeguard training should be in high gear, but we all know that's off for now. As guard and training opportunities arise, I'll post at https://Guard.4Rs.org, or email me.

Without swim pools, many turn to OPEN WATER SWIMMING. See my feature for the International Swim Coaches Association.

Primary election day and a peaceful protest merged this week. Its been 19 years since I was first on the ballot as a candidate for mayor. Short reflections on Facebook or at https://rauterkus.com/election-day-and-a-flashback-to-a-campaign-from-19-years-ago/

Please stay safe this summer.

Call or email if you want help in getting us a recorded story.

Play SKWIM with the game's inventor at 1 pm on Saturday, June 22 at Northside pool

A special friend is coming to town for a short visit, and we're going to be hosting a special event -- a SKWIM game with the inventor of SKWIM, Kevin McCarthy, from the state of Washington.

Get your friends and family and join us at 1 pm at outdoor pool at The Pittsburgh Project, 2801 North Charles Street, (corner of Wilson), on Saturday, June 22, 2019.

All ages and abilities welcome. Pay $3 at the gate to enter or free with your city pool tag.

This summer we got a mini-grant from Pittsburgh Play Collaborative to spread the aquatic game throughout the region -- and champion water safety as well as the concepts of playing well with others, sportsmanship, teamwork and plain-old fun!

Plus, this summer, we're happy to report that the pool at The Pittsburgh Project is open again -- unlike in 2018 when serious plumbing upgrades became necessary. A wonderful staff has gathered too.

If you can't make it on Saturday, we also gather to play water polo and SKWIM every Tuesday and Thursday evening from 6 to 7:45 pm, weather permitting, at Citiparks Ammon Pool on Bedford Ave in the Hill District.

More updates throughout the summer with our google calendar at https://4Rs.org.

BTW, one of my goals is to get a new bottom on the pool at The Pittsburgh Project for next year -- and a SPORTS COURT bottom seems perfect for UWH and our needs. Come check out the pool and offer your ideas.

Fwd: [Art-All-Night] Art All Night 22 Planning committee meeting

----- Forwarded message ---

Greetings Art All Nighters,

Art All Night is embarking on its 22nd year of celebrating art, music, and performance in a free, non-juried, non-censored show!

It will be held at the end of April in a location to be determined. Art All Night needs one thing in order to be successful: a planning team of dedicated people to take on the responsibilities required for show preparation.

Art All Night Planning Members:

  • meet most weeks from now until the end of April.
  • meet Saturdays in April to prepare a warehouse.
  • take on decision-making roles for certain aspects of the show.
  • are not alone-- members support one another and each have a voice.
  • work outside of meetings to fulfill responsibilities.
Being part of the team takes work, but it is also genuinely rewarding and super fun. If you are curious about learning more, come to the kick-off meeting:

First Planning Meeting
when: 7 pm on Wednesday February 13th
where: The Shiloh Building basement, 3832 Mintwood St, Pittsburgh, PA 15201.
*** Note that this is a different location than previous years. Please enter through the door off of Mintwood Street that has a white Art All Night Sign on it.

Any questions or comments? We would like to hear from you. Please email info@artallnight.org or visit www.artallnight.org.

If the planning team is not for you, know that you are still needed! Over 250 volunteers help out during the event. Volunteer sign up information will be sent out in early April.

Fwd: Deadline extended for the Education Public Policy and Leadership Certificate Program: Apply by Dec. 14!

---- Forwarded message -------

View this email in your browser

Interested in education public policy? Want to be a leader and advocate for your profession? This graduate-level 12-month online certificate program is for you!

Ohio University's Patton College of Education and the Voinovich School of Leadership and Public Affairs have partnered to offer the Education Public Policy and Leadership Certificate (EPPLC) program, an engaging yearlong online program that begins January 2019. The EPPLC was created to facilitate greater understanding of educational public policymaking and provide professionals experience in real-world theory and practice. The program will also foster leadership and advocacy in the education public policy arena. To accomplish this, your online coursework will culminate in a three-day networking and capstone experience in Washington, D.C.

Students in the program will represent various vocations, such as K-12 school districts, national and international government agencies, legislative offices, professional associations, civic and private organizations, non-governmental organizations, foundations, organizations that interface with educational entities, philanthropic organizations, and embassies. This will result in a thorough exploration of the topic from different vantage points and experience, leaving you with a strong command of education public policy development, analysis, implementation, evaluation, and advocacy.

The EPPLC program is a dynamic 12-month experience that will forever connect you with a network of peers and increase your employability in the education public policy arena.

Click here for further information, or contact Dr. Dwan V. Robinson at robinsd3@ohio.edu.

The application deadline has been extended to Dec. 14, 2018!

Fwd: 2018 Pittsburgh Dirty Dozen Bicycle Ride

---- Forwarded message ---------
From: Dirty Dozen

Dear riders and friends of Danny Chew:

Another year has gone by and this year's edition of the Dirty Dozen is fast approaching. You are invited to participate in the 36th annual running of the event, which will be held on Saturday, November 24th. Proceeds will benefit Danny, who is overall director of this challenging ride he co-founded. If you register by November 3rd you will receive an additional discount on your entry fee.

Here are some of the changes in this year's ride:

• New starting location. The ride now begins at the Rhododendron Shelter on Lake Drive in Highland Park. By straight-line distance this is less than half a mile to the north and west of the Bud Harris Cycling Track, and can be reached by traveling north on Stanton Avenue.

• Official-finisher ribbons will be mailed out after the event to ensure that all riders who certify their official-finisher status will receive one. Instructions for certifying official-finisher status will be included in your registration packet.

• Separate women's event. Women wanting to compete can choose to ride in either the first group, competing directly against the men in an open event, or in the second group, which is reserved for women only.

Here are the links for this year's ride:
