2020 NRPA ANNUAL CONFERENCE | ORLANDO | OCT 27-20, 2020
2020 Call for Speed Session Proposals

Mark,

We are now accepting Speed Session proposals for the 2020 NRPA Annual Conference in Orlando, Florida. Speed Sessions are quick, 20-minute presentations designed to engage and inspire. These collaborative and energizing sessions cover a variety of the hottest topics and trends in parks and recreation, and are always a popular attraction for attendees at the NRPA Annual Conference.

Here are three reasons you should submit a proposal this year:
  1. These sessions are a great opportunity to share your knowledge and unique experiences with park and recreation professionals from around the country.

  2. The sessions are only 20 minutes. No matter your speaking experience, this is a great opportunity to challenge yourself to think creatively and outside of the box for your presentation (audience participation is strongly encouraged).

  3. Submitting a proposal is easy! All you need is a great idea or story, a catchy title, a short description (100-200 words) and a learning outcome.
Submit Your Speed Session

The deadline to submit your proposal is April 30, 2020.

How it Works:

  • go to "Basic Training" --> we will be using the videos in the "At Home" section

  • click on one of the videos --> you will be asked to subscribe which is only $1.99/mo for ALL videos and features on the app (use code "athomeusawp" for a free month!)

  • every morning, check the 6-8 Instagram (@68sports) to find out the workout for that day (also posted on the 6-8 website)

  • complete the daily Challenge and tag us in your stories to show us how you're improving!

6-8 Game Viewing & Scoring Practice
This is a great way to stay mentally sharp (and in the water polo mindset) during the shutdown.

Here's how it works:

  • 3 days per week, follow our @68sports Instagram stories to find out the link for that day's game footage (we will choose one quarter of a college or professional game and provide the YouTube link)

  • login to your account on the 6-8 Sports mobile app and click on "Game Scoring"

  • create a new game by clicking on the little + sign in the lower right hand corner

  • our Instagram stories will let you know which quarter and which specific athlete you will be tracking that day (also posted on the 6-8 website

  • start watching the game footage on YouTube and score the athlete on your 6-8 app

  • take a screenshot of your final game stats page send it to us -each week we will have a raffle between all those that submitted the correct stats and one person will win a special 6-8 prize!

Happy to help.

Fwd: A Message to Our Partners

Safe Boating Campaign

Most of us are working from home and dreaming of normalcy. Please follow state and local public health guidance if you are recreating on the water during this time. Remember, we're all in this together.

A Note to Our Partners

With the ongoing coverage surrounding the coronavirus outbreak, our top priority is to keep our Safe Boating Campaign partners around the world safe. Historically the National Safe Boating Council has developed resources for partners around the world to use in their local grassroots efforts and encouraged local participation in events such as National Safe Boating Week, Wear Your Life Jacket to Work Day, and Ready, Set, Wear It Days.

In following recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control, we encourage partners to postpone or cancel all large gatherings until otherwise notified by your state or local officials. Read more for event guidance related to COVID-19.

The NSBC encourages partners to communicate with their local community via social media, newsletters, local newspapers, and other digital communications about recreational boating safety. During this time of social distancing, new and seasoned boaters may still be out on the water. In fact, some areas are seeing an increase in fishing and paddling activities. Please visit our Resource Kit for free social media images, videos, posts and other content.

Select free resources, such as brochures, stickers, pledge cards, wristbands and other printed giveaway items are delayed due to stay-at-home orders impacting warehouse distribution and delivery.

Stay in touch with us! We'll post frequent updates on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.

Wear Your Life Jacket to Work Day

Mark your calendar! Wear Your Life Jacket to Work Day is Friday, May 15, 2020. Working from home? No worries. Let's flood social media with life jacket images and boating safety tips. We love boating and let's share it with others. It's easy to participate. Wear your life jacket to work (or at home), snap a picture and share on social media with the hashtags #lifejacket2work and #safeboating. Be sure to tag us to! (@BoatingCampaign on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram)

Think life jackets aren't for you? Think again. Nearly 80% of people who drown weren't wearing a life jacket. #lifejacket2work #safeboating

Cleaning and Storing Life Jackets

Please follow state and local guidance for recreating on the water. If you think your life jacket has been exposed to a virus, clean as recommended by the manufacturer and then let dry in warm, low humidity environment for at least 72 hours before reuse.

Wayne Fontana's Fumbles

Just because it surfaced again. This is not an April Fool's joke, sadly.

The great TP shortage at the outset of the pandemic

A man shopping in a supermarket brought his purchase of two cans of dog food to the checkout counter. The cashier asked, "Sir, do you have a dog?"

"Yes." replied the man.

"Well, where is it?" asked the cashier.

"I left him at home." He answered.

"Sorry," the cashier said, "You can't buy the dog food if I can't see the dog. Those are the rules!"

The next day he returned to the store and brought some cat food to the checkout. "Do you have a cat?" asked the cashier.

"Yes," he said, "but I left him at home."

"Sorry," she said, "If I can't see the cat, I can't sell you the food. Those are the rules!"

The next day the man walked into the store with a brown paper bag. He walked up to the cashier and said, "Here. Put your hand in here."

The cashier put her hand in and said, "It's soft and warm. What is it?"

The man replied, "I'd like three rolls of toilet paper!"
