Apply Now for EPLC's 2015-2016 PA Education Policy Fellowship Program!   Applications are available now for the 2015-2016 Education Policy Fellowship Program (EPFP).  The Education Policy Fellowship Program is sponsored in Pennsylvania by The Education Policy and Leadership Center (EPLC). Click here for the program calendar of sessions.   With 450 graduates in its first sixteen years, this Program is a premier professional development opportunity for educators, state and local policymakers, advocates, and community leaders.  State Board of Accountancy (SBA) credits are available to certified public accountants.   Past participants include state policymakers, district superintendents and principals, school business officers, school board members, education deans/chairs, statewide association leaders, parent leaders, education advocates, and other education and community leaders. Of course football should rid itself of the helmets

For years I've been saying this. Some must be listening.

The pee wee league that starts to play its season without helmets now will be better grooming its players for the furure's pro leagues. Saving money and brain function at the same time is what is needed for the sport to stay mainstream. Otherwise, football goes to the way of being only for the poor and downtrodden. Think Romans and stadium sports.

Better than playing helmet-less football is to play without helmets AND in a swim pool. For the sake of wellness, put the games and athletes right into the water environment. Blown out knees are less of a factor too. Play 7-on-7, shrink the goal posts, and make the ball round as well. Folks will want to play year round too. 

Call it water polo and play on an international stage.

Maker Faire Pittsburgh is looking for a wide variety of eclectic,
diverse and forward thinking projects and ideas that highlight the DIY
and tinkerer spirit. Exhibits and displays can range from student
projects, robotics, 3D printers and CNC mills, textile arts and crafts,
home energy monitoring, rockets and R/C toys, sustainability, green
tech, radios, vintage computers and game systems, electronics, electric
vehicles, biology/biotech and chemistry projects, puppets, kites,
bicycles, and unusual tools or machines.

Individuals, groups, schools, clubs, organizations, and entrepreneurs
are invited to apply to demonstrate what they make and share what they
have learned with other makers and with the community.

Our Open House on July 4th is happening again: 108 South 12th, Historic South Side, Pittsburgh, PA 15203

Greetings:

The 4th of July is coming and we (Palmer/Rauterkus Family) are having our annual party. Here are the details…Our best news is that our sons Erik (20) and Grant (17) will both be with us this year for the holiday!

The party starts at 7pm. There is lots of space in the house for air conditioned visiting. The deck offers a great view of the city. Our indoor game room is now a putting green – we’ll supply clubs. We also have a park a block away with climbers, swings, and a big field for games so bring the kids and they’ll have lots to do. We have the party rain or shine since we have plenty of space (air conditioned) indoors. We supply napkins, plates, utensils, cups and lemonade. If you want something more exciting (and we hope you do), please bring some to share (food or beverage). Preferably finger foods (but we’ll have some plastic spoons and forks around as well). You’ll be viewing the downtown fire works from our deck just after dark. Everyone is welcome – please feel free to bring friends, relatives, etc.

2015 Pool Tag Information

Free Pool Passes

Citiparks is now offering FREE swimming in all City of Pittsburgh pools for resident children, fifteen years and younger.  Parents need only to register their children at any of Citiparks’ 10 Recreation Centers across the city then bring their membership cards to the pool each day.

How do I prove I am a city resident?

Proof includes a driver’s license or state photo I.D., school I.D., utility bills, report cards, pay stubs, lease agreements or other official correspondence. Your city address must be on the identification to be valid.

How do I prove I receive welfare?

Bring a copy of your case printout. You can get this from your caseworker at the Department of Public Assistance. The printout must include a current date, your name, the name of everyone in the family you want to get tags for, and your address.

USING YOUR POOL TAG:

Your pool tag can be used at our indoor aquatic facility, the Oliver Bath House, or at any of our 18 outdoor facilities.  The tag is good all summer long, and can be used at our indoor pool throughout the fall, winter and spring.  The tag you purchased today will expire June 1, 2016.

To avoid losing your tag, sew the tag on to your swimsuit.  You may wear the tag attached to an ankle or wristband or looped onto your swimsuit’s shoulder strap or belt loop.  For your own protection, never wear your tag on a neck chain or pinned to your suit.  Wear your tag the entire time you are at the pool.  It must be visible to the pool staff.  Citiparks will not refund or replace lost or stolen tags, so it is safest to sew on your tag.

You must have a tag to enter any of our aquatic facilities, even if you are not swimming.  The tag is your admission to the pool area.  Your admission fee helps pay for the staffing and operation of the facility.  Don’t forget, children under the age of 6 must be accompanied by an adult 16 years or older in the water.

Tags may be revoked for violations of pool rules.

The City of Pittsburgh offers a variety of aquatic programs for people of all ages.  To find out what programs are available at your pool, contact the Head Lifeguard, look online at www.citiparks.net, or call the Aquatic Division Office at:  412-323-7928.

The City of Pittsburgh will open 18 outdoor aquatic facilities on Tuesday, June 9, 2015, at 1:00 PM.  The outdoor swimming season will end on Labor Day, Monday, September 7, 2015.  Citiparks pools will remain open through Labor Day as staffing levels permit.
