Time to apply for the 2018 staff for our efforts with Summer Dreamers: Swim & Water Polo Camp and more

The 2018 efforts are going to include a site at U-Prep in the afternoons with PPS Summer Dreamers Swim & Water Polo. Other help is needed on the Northside in the mornings with The Pittsburgh Project. In the evenings, swimming is going to happen at Citiparks' outdoor pool at Ammon Rec Center on Bedford Avenue and Memory Lane on Tuesdays and Thursdays. On Monday evenings we expect to go to north to Moraine State Park for open water swimming.

Wednesdays, Fridays and weekends are the times we keep reserved for travel to other pools around the region.

Learning Links

The Origin of Everything YouTube Channel from PBS investigates the “why” behind many aspects of everyday life. The fun videos are perfect for your most curious students, or for getting students excited about learning on their own. Video topics range from history (Why is there a South and North Korea?) to pop culture (Where does the #Hashtag come from?).
Quizlet Diagrams help students see what they're learning in a whole new way. Whether you're studying human anatomy or national geography, this new feature makes studying a lot more fun. Create custom diagrams, or choose from Quizlet's premade sets.

Sadly, Quizlet is not free. Get a free period of 14-days, then pay for the year. I won't be paying.

Pitt Women's Hoops -- an invite for its GAME DAY in a School Day

Hello Teachers and Administrators –

I hope you all had a wonderful summer and are excited about a new school year.

On behalf of Head Coach Suzie McConnell-Serio and the women’s basketball program here at the University of Pittsburgh, I want to invite you and your students to Pitt’s campus for the ninth annual women’s basketball “School Day” game. Pitt will face Cornell at 11 a.m. on Monday, November 13 in the Petersen Events Center.

Last season, the Panthers played in front of a School Day record crowd of nearly 10,000 fans when they defeated Youngstown State, making it the highest attended women’s basketball educational field trip in the country. You can visit www.PittsburghPanthers.com/schoolday to see pictures and videos from last year’s field trip.

SCHEDULE OF THE DAY
·        9:30 a.m. – Doors open, students complete educational workbooks, watch warmups, watch educational videos
·        11 a.m. – Tipoff, enjoy educational and fun in-game videos, t-shirt toss, music
·        Noon – Halftime: Speakers from our Life Skills Department and student-athletes
o   Lunch: Guests can visit the concession stands (School Day specials will be available including a $3 hot dog & soda combo or a $3 popcorn & soda combo) or pack their own lunches.
·        1 p.m. – Game concludes, schools depart

In order to support education beyond the School Day event, each school in attendance will be sent free game vouchers following School Day, which may be used to reward students throughout the school year for academic excellence. Students may redeem these vouchers at a women's basketball home game this season for free admission for themselves and up to three guests.

RESERVE YOUR SPOT!
All tickets are only $1. Visit www.PittsburghPanthers.com/schoolday to find the order form, flyer, and more information. To purchase tickets, contact Angela Hunter at tickets@athletics.pitt.edu or by calling 412-648-8270.

Time to visit -- especially at the public pools

Hi All,

Summer in the city! Hope you and yours are safe and healthy.

Last week highlights: 20 adults joined together to play water polo at
Citiparks Ammon outdoor swim pool in The Hill District. We're looking to
add youth and rookie games in the shallow-water in the weeks to come.

Next practice: 6 pm to 7:45 on Thursday, July 6 at Ammon, Bedford Ave &
Memory Lane.

Then again on Tuesdays, again on Tuesday, July 11. All are invited.

+ +

Lots of action is happening and being documented with some fun photos at
Swim & Water Polo with Pittsburgh Public Schools Summer Dreamers. Follow
along at http://CLOH.org.

+ +

Your help is desired in building political for the inclusion of AQUATICS
within the new Community Schools venture taking root in PPS this coming
school year

http://cloh.org/wp/archives/1090

+ +

Our Independence Day open house is slated for the evening of July 4th,
again, of course. Both of our boys are home this summer -- and both have
appartments in other cities. Come for a visit and watch fireworks from the
deck.

+ +

Fingers are crossed for the still pending opening of the outdoor pool on
the Northside at The Pittsburgh Project. We have dreams of playing lots of
SKWIM there this summer. SKWIM is a great inter-generational game and we
want to build our base of participation throughout the city and the nation.

Hope to see you soon, so we can talk about the endless list of benefits in
this quest in "playing well with others."

--
Ta.

Dear Bicycle-loving Friend,
As you may already know, we are holding a Fundraising Event for Danny Chew  on June 17th, to help raise funds for making his home handicapped-accessible, as well as for the uplhighly increased living expenses that come with being paralyzed. He is temporarily living in Ohio, but is coming home to Pittsburgh in a month. Time is of the essence!
The Fundraiser should be a great celebration with  food, beer, music, bicycle-related games and activities, as well as Danny himself.
(For details on the event, please look below)

We are also accepting gifts-in-kind for our Silent Auction and Basket Raffle (there is a form attached to this letter, and arrangements will be made to pick up anything donated), so you have an opportunity to participate in those ways as well.

Just for the Record, I fit into all this by being one of the original cyclists in the Chew Cycling Crew...Danny's sister Carol and I were the first to check out the Thursday night bicycle rides at the American Youth Hostels, then other members of the family became interested, and well, the rest is - HIStory.

Please see the attached letter from Danny...

Be well everyone,
Susan Richter
