In 2010, Tri-State Sports & News Service and Pittsburgh Post-Gazette teamed up to form the Sports Town web site. Sports Town provided excellent coverage of all high school sports for 6 1/2 years.
We were fortunate to have McDonald's as our sponsor during a six-year run, but the corporation has decided to end its sponsorship.
After an unsuccessful three-month search for a new sponsor, the Sports Town web site will cease operations in the near future.
The web site will be shut down at the end of October, so feel free to go back and find any posts or photos that you would like to save.
I would like to thank all the writers and photographers who contributed to Sports Town, especially writer Brad Everett (my right-hand man) and photographer Marilyn Schwilm. The full list of writers and photographers who have contributed over the years are listed below.
I also would like to thank McDonald's, for its six years of sponsorship, along with the many high school coaches, athletes, and fans who visited our site. Your support is greatly appreciated.
And lastly, I would like to thank Post-Gazette Executive Editor David Shribman, for giving me the opportunity to head up Sports Town, and Post-Gazette Assistant Managing Editor Matt Kennedy, for all his help with creating the web site and overseeing its operations.
I am currently working on a WPIAL and PIAA history site. My hope is to find a sponsor and unveil the site on Oct. 1. I will keep everybody updated on my progress.

Dear Bicycle-loving Friend,
As you may already know, we are holding a Fundraising Event for Danny Chew on June 17th, to help raise funds for making his home handicapped-accessible, as well as for the uplhighly increased living expenses that come with being paralyzed. He is temporarily living in Ohio, but is coming home to Pittsburgh in a month. Time is of the essence!
The Fundraiser should be a great celebration with food, beer, music, bicycle-related games and activities, as well as Danny himself.
(For details on the event, please look below)
If you cannot make it to the fundraiser, but would still like to contribute, here is a link to help Danny: https://www.helphopelive.org/campaign/12584. We are also accepting gifts-in-kind for our Silent Auction and Basket Raffle (there is a form attached to this letter, and arrangements will be made to pick up anything donated), so you have an opportunity to participate in those ways as well.
Just for the Record, I fit into all this by being one of the original cyclists in the Chew Cycling Crew...Danny's sister Carol and I were the first to check out the Thursday night bicycle rides at the American Youth Hostels, then other members of the family became interested, and well, the rest is - HIStory.
Please see the attached letter from Danny...Be well everyone,Susan Richter412-736-xxxx (removed by blogsmaster)

City of Pittsburgh
Dear Mayor Peduto,
Hope you have a safe and enjoyable summer. Thanks for coming to the South Side.
Four requests:
See the attached draft poster for insights into our water polo activities for city kids this summer, thanks to the cooperation of Pittsburgh Public Schools with Summer Dreamers and Citiparks. We are holding morning and evening open practices at various pools. Please help to insure pools access for water polo coaching throughout the summer. The kids need coaching and a sustained program that is worthy of their devotion to make a real impact upon their lives.
Efforts with Digital Badges is going to be fantastic. Those not hired in 2015 should get to work with Digital Badges too. Please raise the bar for 2016 by encouraging future applicants a front row in the lottery-selection process if they earn five or more badges this summer.
In August, we'd love to host an All-City Sports Camp that includes a 'water polo festival' with a NCAA game on Saturday, September 5, 2015, (Labor Day Weekend) between W&J and Mercyhurst at Highland Park Pool. My aquatics plan and our city's sports-town legacy can come into focus to benefit wellness, public safety and volunteer efforts like never before. We need quality programs for the youth. With sports and recreation, Pittsburgh can cheer and say, “Come Live Over Here.” But this needs the awareness and support of the mayor, superintendent of schools. This summer we can prototye an exciting youth program that extends Learn & Earn, if you give me some support.
