PROJECT GHANA 2018

NOVEMBER 17 - 24th

ISLA Returns to Ghana! In 2016 we deployed an international team of lifeguard instructors, who conducted our most challenging training program consisting of over 120 training course participants. In the end, our ISLA instructors and participants rose to the challenge, and the government established a national rescue unit comprised of various military and public safety personnel. The Ghana National Aquatic Rescue Unit (GNARU) was born!

Checkout the pics from our 2016 project: This year our team of International Lifeguards will be working with GNARU to conduct our  a 3-day Basic Open water Lifeguard Course in Accra, Ghana. Our ISLA Team will then spend a couple of days shopping, touring, and experiencing the local culture. This will be an adventure you can't miss!

Volunteer applications close August 26th. The selection process is highly competitive; apply early to give application an extra edge.

Fwd: How's that working out?

From: John H

Paul Street once again points out the obvious about our 'two party system' – it simply doesn't work for the country.

From: John H

I just received this post from Consortiumnews.com and I believe that it is too important not to send right out.  It may well attack some of your preconceptions, but I urge you to read it in full.  The danger we face as a nation because of our willingness to accept 'evidence free' charges of wrongdoing just because they are widely repeated in the establishment media endangers all of us in many different ways.  It should be an axiom of any thinking person to at least question received wisdom when no evidence is presented in support of its validity – and in this case no evidence has been presented in support of the government's assertions; while counter-evidence has been presented which renders these assertions to be impossible as presented.

Subject: Morgan Bergren- Pro Volleyball and The Minimalist Lifestyle

Morgan Bergren is 24 and a Professional Volleyball Player for VC Wiesbaden. She is a graduate of the University of Kentucky. Her third year of professional volleyball she adopted a minimalist lifestyle.

"When I come home I am overwhelmed by all of the material things I have accumulated over the years. Getting to travel with only two suitcases has helped me appreciate a more minimalistic lifestyle. I'm still growing and learning exactly what that means for me, but I do know I would rather collect more memories than more stuff. I'm currently working to apply this approach to more areas of my life, and to just keep it simple by loving God and loving others"

Together we are making history!

You stepped up. You raised your voice. You made a commitment to our kids.

You didn't just whisper, you roared. Which is why on Tuesday we turned in 63,499 signatures petitioning the Allegheny County Board of Elections to add the Allegheny County Children's Fund to the Nov. 8, 2018 General Election ballot.

You read that correctly. Our goal was to collect 40,000 signatures, but nearly 64,000 of our community members took the question seriously and were open to having this dialogue about early learning, after school, nutrition and our future.

We are incredibly grateful for your commitment to our kids.

The 63,499 signatures came not only from all 130 municipalities but from each and every one of the 1,322 voting precincts in Allegheny County. More than 200 people collected signatures from friends, family and neighbors, and notaries helped us get the petitions finalized to submit.

Thank you to all of you who signed, spread the word, circulated petitions and showed your support! This is just the beginning, but we are one step closer to creating an even brighter future for all kids in Allegheny County.

Until we receive the official word from the Election Board that the question is on the November ballot (and you can believe we'll let you know as soon as we do), please continue to spread the word about having this conversation about our kids and investing in our region.
