Based on a combination of environment, health care, culture and infrastructure, Vancouver topped the list of the world's most liveable cities for the fifth straight year, according to a new report.
The Liveability Ranking and Overview assesses living conditions in 140 cities around the world. A rating of relative comfort for 30 indicators is assigned across five broad categories: stability; healthcare; culture and environment; education; and infrastructure. The survey gives an overall rating of 0-100, where 1 is intolerable and 100 is ideal.
The full report can be purchased for US $500.

We celebrate when Pittsburgh fares well in surveys like this. I know that a contributing factor to our city's cultural life(and thus our "livability") is the jazz scene. Clubs downtown and elsewhere contribute mightily to a sophisticated, elegant side to our nightlife. Now our city's jazz radio station seems to be about to be hijacked by out of town interests. Let's just call them what they are. Carpetbaggers. As a native Pittsburgher I feel like someone is trying to rob me. How can any Pittsburgher not feel this way. How can this be stopped?
