Dear Summer Learning Community, Thank you to everyone who joined or watched the YouTube stream of National Summer Learning Association’s recent Capitol Hill Briefing on the newly introduced “Summer for All Act”. The Federal legislation proposes $4 Billion in new funding for non-profit community based organizations providing youth summer programs. We were honored to welcome co-sponsors, U.S. Senator Chris Murphy (CT) and U.S. Senator Andy Kim (NJ), who each shared remarks on why the legislation is important to them and the multiple benefits youth summer programs provide to kids, working parents, schools, employers and communities. We were also honored to hear from NSLA National Board Chair Jim Quinn, and a dynamic panel discussion of experts facilitated by Ally Talcott of Allied for Progress and featuring:
- Vincent Marigna, CEO, Breakthrough Collaborative
- Wendi Safstrom, CEO, SHRM Foundation
- Dr. Julianne Bello, Director, Office of Extended Learning, Newark Public Schools (NJ)
- Adam Taube, MERL Advisor, Save the Children US
Together, these leaders highlighted how this legislation can support our vision of providing a meaningful and impactful Summer For All.
