Pittsburgh Marathon running out of entry spots

Pittsburgh Marathon running out of entry spots: "The registration spots for the May 3 event are going fast. Entries have been capped at 9,000 -- 3,500 for the full marathon, 3,500 for the half marathon and 2,000 for up to 500, four-person relay teams."
Why cap the entries? Why?

Perhaps it is time to think again. The race is in May.

I'm sure they have their reasons to cap it. Let's presume that they know what they're doing for the resources available.

I ran all 19 previous marathons and I can"t get in!!! I'm disapointed but whats on to do!!!
I won't degrade myself by running as a bandit. I'll run wheeling 20k and columbus marathon in the fall. But you can bet I'll register real early for 2010!!!...

What to do:

Well, the organizers could do away with the half-marathon. Scrap the relay race too.

This is a MARATHON.

Do the half another weekend.
