Police Tip line for City of Pittsburgh = 412.323.7141

The attack was bogus! The link from WTAE.
Tips go to: 412.323.7141

Why not press charges? The police should press charges on the fake attack. This is an enforcement issue too. Pittsburgh has a bad way of doing follow-up and enforcement. Besides the egregious affront to the already strained Police, the reports have tarnished our city neighborhood and left residents and visitors frightened.

I agree with M of the Gypsie Cafe who wrote in the NAN email: "If nothing else, a public apology by these two is certainly in order. The only good to come of this is that we were reminded to be vigilant which is never a wasted message."

Police released descriptions of the attackers of the couple on the South Side in the early morning hours about 5 days ago:

Suspect #1 - white male, stocky build, black short hair, 5'9", 180 lbs, mustache, wearing a white shirt and blue jean shorts.

Suspect #2 - white male, 5'11", 180 lbs, black short hair.

Both actors hair was cut short, almost shaved on the sides.

You raise a good point. I've heard the same thing. Thanks for posting it. When I talked with some news reporter -- there were a number of questions raised that made one wonder.

I have no idea what happened. Did you call the tip line? Was there another "report" that uncovered this 'news' that I might have missed?

Subject: RE: South Side Hoax: Street Sex Attack Didn't Happen

Hi Melanie, The reason we requested you put this info out is because for the week following the robbery I received e-mails and calls questioning the number of rapes occurring that we keep quiet. The fact is most the rapes in the zone the past four years 99.5 percent where date rapes, spousal rapes, and the victims knew their alleged attacker.
In many of these the victims end up withdrawing charges. For obovious reason we tred lightly when handling these reports until all the facts are in place and the picture clear on what actually happened. As to Why they will not proceed with charges against the alleged victim, I had no input into the decision, and I would guess there is a good reason, I
just do not know what that is at this time.
On another note Zone Officers arrested a 16 yoa male from Donora PA for a purse snatch last evening in the 100 block of 17th St. at around 6:06 PM by 6:10 PM the actor was in custody. Again a resident of the community assisted officers in locating the actor. This is becoming a common occurence in the flats and citizen vigilance is greatly appreciated. This type of police community involvement will send a clear message to those who target that this community does not tolerate
criminal activity.
