Spammers' Speed Trap: Posting some snares in the wake of Katrina

We need to come up with a plan to set some traps to place within the databases built in the wake of Katrinia and People Finder efforts.

Humm.... More thinking and documentation to do.

BTW, the FEMA decoder rings are on the back burner for now.

I've avoided saying this before now, but I think we've reached a point where you guys should take this discussion off-list.

I think consensus here is that our priority of connecting people has
precedence over potential privacy issues, acknowledging that all the
data we're entering here was in public forums probably even more
accessible to spiders operated by spammers et al than entries in our db.

If you want to seek legislation, that's fine, but that's not a subject for this list. By the time you get legislation we'll probably be too far along for it to matter on this project. Next time around, maybe we add a checkbox for those who want to be added to the do-not-call registry as part of the process.

But please... take this discussion elsewhere for now.

Agree. I hope his posting holds sway among hyper needy -- and among the naysayers.
