'The fix' - Trib editorial

When do we get to stop picking on Tom Murphy?
'The fix' - PittsburghLIVE.com: 'The fix'

Pittsburgh Mayor Tom Murphy says 'the fix is in' regarding who will get the lone city casino license.
'It's no secret,' Mr. Murphy said Thursday during a Press Club of Western Pennsylvania forum. 'The word is out. The fix is in in Pittsburgh.'
And not only that, Murphy said, three potential slot machine suppliers also have the inside track.
What does Bob O'Connor say about "the fix?" Is this going to be like the great gambling scandal of the Black Sox. The Sox won the World Series this year in a 'sweep.'

Michael Lamb put the questions about donors to O'Connor in light of this gambling bid. Is there a connection there too?

'The fix'
Pittsburgh Mayor Tom Murphy says "the fix is in" regarding who will get the lone city casino license.

"It's no secret," Mr. Murphy said Thursday during a Press Club of Western Pennsylvania forum. "The word is out. The fix is in in Pittsburgh."

And not only that, Murphy said, three potential slot machine suppliers also have the inside track.

Hizzhoner scolded the media for not doing its job in exposing "the fix."

Pressed by the Trib's Andrew Conte to identify those involved, Murphy balked. "And get sued?" he said.

Tom Murphy effectively has alleged that a crime or crimes has or have been committed in the long -- and thus far, smelly -- rollout of slot machine gambling in Pennsylvania. As a citizen and as an elected official, he has an ethical and legal responsibility to contact authorities if he has knowledge of such activity.

If this incident simply was another example of the mayor running off at the mouth, he should retract his statement. If it's not, he should contact authorities immediately.

Should he not, Allegheny County District Attorney Stephen Zappala and/or Pennsylvania Attorney General Tom Corbett have a responsibility to interview Murphy to ascertain the veracity of his allegations.

Should Murphy refuse, a grand jury should be empaneled and the mayor subpoenaed to testify.

What's it going to be, Mr. Mayor?
