American Eagle Outfitters is the backdrop to the news.

Subject: tax funded parking garage

Seems that even as the state can not find money to provide dedicated funding for public transit there is money available for tax payer subsidized private parking garages. American Eagle Outfitters has decided to locate its headquarters here in the burgh and part of the great corporate welfare package they are getting is $3 million from the state to help them build a parking garage for their young and super talented employees. Thus as the Post-Gazette they will get "the most coveted of urban perks -- free parking."

Does it frost your back side to see our tax money being used to promote and perpetuate this un-sustainable car culture even as public transit in the state is hanging by a thread?

We have been lied to! Urban planners and the yuppie creative class idiots have said that the salvation of PGH lies with keeping talented youth with lots of disposable income living here and that this demographic loves tofu and public transit. Why then is tax $$ being used to build parking lots?

No tax $$ for parking garages except for park and rides!
