Hi Folks,
To imminent actions this weekend I wanted to share with you:
CHURCH LIT DROP
We are doing leafleting in the church parking lots tomorrow during services. This will be crucial for getting the word out that Schenley is just the tip of the high school reform iceberg. If we can get the greater PPS parent and student population to see that it isn't just about Schenley, its about all the schools we will have a much better chance. If you can participate please call SJ Antonucci at 412-478-7223
WELCOME to new Board members
We are organizing Schenley students to sign a card welcoming the two new board members being inaugurated on Monday. If they are reasonable, we could have a majority! It would be great if we could get a bunch of parents to sign cards, either individually or in groups for Sherry Hazuda and Heather Arnet. Contact me, Jennifer England at 312-513-9091 if you are interested in participating.
We need help spreading the word on both of these actions too, so send this on to anyone who might be interested.

In related news, there's a vote scheduled December 19th for next year's budget (that's a pdf of a powerpoint, I'll keep looking for an actual document link). From the PDF:
"Despite an overall decline in the budget, some expenses are growing: – Examples include increases in rates for benefits, energy costs and debt service and supports high school reform transition costs"
This will be the second vote to authorize spending on High School reform (November 14th was the vote to spend for architects and contractors to work on 5 different buildings). Before spending the money, we should really be able to see the whole plan and receive detailed information about it. Another talking point for speaking to the board and the media?
From the PPS website:
Pittsburgh Public Schools - Board of Directors
Wednesday, December 19, 2007 - 07:30 PM
Legislative Session - December
The Board will take action on education, business/finance and personnel matters on the December agenda.
The agenda includes a vote on the 2008 Budget.
