I disagree with this part of his statement:

"The better DeSantis' showing, the better it will be for the Democratic Party in Pittsburgh"

The better MD's showing, the better it will be for the entire city of Pittsburgh. If this is a real race and it forces us to take different approaches to the big issues then a DeSantis loss in November would still be a huge win for Pittsburgh.

Humm....

The election is an opportunity to improve ourselves as citizens and as a region / city.

We can improve as a by-product of the process of holding campaigns and elections. And, we can improve as a by-product of the final vote -- the outcome.

I want a viable race, debates, issue discussions, back-and-forth.

And, I want a great mayor to hold that office for the next two years.

Me too Mark. If you want this then why are you running for mayor?

First, I'm being a placeholder for the office of mayor.

Second, I don't intend to run in the mayor's race.

Third, by putting in a candidate in the mayor's race, we (Libertarians) can be more certain that we'll end up with a great mayor holding that office. More can be done from within the race than not. More can be learned from within the race than not.
