To the Editor:
Pittsburgh is truly at a crossroads in this 21st Century with the upcoming Mayoral Race. We have been doing things way too long in a 19th and 20th Century mindset. In these days of the Internet, mobile phones, 24 hour news and information sources plus a global economy, dire change is needed and NOW!!!! Otherwise our city cannot ever hope to utilize its awesome potential.
The best way to describe this is by using the dictionary. "Democrat" is found in your dictionary between DECEASED and DINOSAUR, while "Republican" is located between RENAISSANCE and RESURRECTION. In other words, the difference is between OLD and NEW.
Therefore, to make sure Pittsburgh becomes NEW again, we must not continue being ruled by the OLD. I urge all my fellow Pittsburghers to make everything NEW again by selecting Mark DeSantis as our next Mayor. On November 6, 2007 we can bring Pittsburgh instantly into the 21st Century. Join me at your polling place and vote for Mark DeSantis. You'll be glad you did!!!!!!!

Thanks for the above event on your blog. However, one thing as a correction.
I'm NOT A MARK DESANTIS associate. My letter recommending Mr. Desantis as
Pittsburgh Mayor was sent after many of your blog articles, plus those of
John McIntyre(http://www.macyapper.blogspot.com/ ), and P-G/Trib Review
Mayoral Race coverage as well. I wrote it as a concerned PRIVATE CITIZEN in
the City of Pittsburgh.
I'll keep you posted about if that letter gets published. You can also check

I don't like how Rick Hays used the words "deceased" and "dinosaur" to describe Democrats. This type of divisive language is not what we should be using if we want a Republican to win the mayoral race.
Mark DeSantis is the candidate that will bring Pittsburgh into the 21st century and will it's government a model of transparency and efficiency.
I would have rather Mr. Hays used a comparison between Ravenstahl and DeSantis rather than Democrat and Republican since this race is about leadership and accountability. It is not about the two parties, and it can't be about the two parties if we want DeSantis to have a chance in November.
Good point.
Idealistic.
If DeSantis and his crew wanted to make it about the guy and not the party -- DeSantis would run as an Indie.
He didn't.
His campaign is a Republican field exercise. His generals are operatives kicking up a skirmish to better prep for Scranton's race for Governor.
Opposition is good.
Rick's approach went to wake up the slumbering seniors. And, those who are awake need to come alive in these efforts to overcome the dinosaurs who do cast votes.
By the way, a model of transparency would include operations such as a TRANSPARENT PAC ACCOUNT.
Every dime that goes into and out of the DeSantis campaign should be documented with real time reporting.
The problem with him running as an indy is twofold.
First, he is a Republican, and second, he needs the support of the GOP in order to raise enough money to run an effective campaign.
As far as transparency - he's got good people behind his campaign finances. I don't think you need to worry about anything there, chief.
