Operation Clean Sweep: Pennsylvania

While at church today, a woman asked me about "operation clean sweep." Here is a pointer:
Party switching, as part of the strategy:Operation Clean Sweep: Pennsylvania: "Whenever it's time to reapportion legislative districts, incumbents always find a way to do it in a fashion that further secures their own political futures. It's time to use that against them by casting off your party label. In 2006, it's not Republicans vs. Democrats; it's the Incumbent Party vs. the Citizens Party.

Sounds great to me. Presently there are only two candidates on the line-up.

Candidate Declaration

I, the undersigned, hereby declare my commitment, upon election to the Pennsylvania General Assembly by the citizens of my legislative district, to sponsor and/or vote to enact legislation to specifically meet the following goals:

1. the repeal of House Bill 1521, effectively returning compensation for members of Pennsylvania's legislative, executive and judicial branches to pre-HB 1521 levels;

2. establishing a policy whereby all future compensation changes for Pennsylvania's legislative, executive and judicial branches shall be subject to voter approval by referendum; and

3. establishing a policy whereby no legislation in the General Assembly shall be considered for final passage until the citizens of the Commonwealth have been given no less than ten business days to review such legislation and provide comment to their respective legislators.

I also declare that while my party affiliation and/or personal ideology may differ from others who have signed or will sign this declaration, those differences are far less important than the primary need to reform the Pennsylvania General Assembly into a body which is more responsive and accountable to the citizens of the Commonwealth.

I agree to meet all requirements set forth by the Commonwealth in order to qualify to appear on the ballot for the office listed below in the 2006 election year.

Finally, I declare that, upon taking the oath of office, the pursuit of the above stated goals shall take priority over all other legislative issues.

Greetings PACleanSweepers!

A BIG welcome to the 300 or so who've signed on as OCS members in the
last few days!

As you're probably well aware, media coverage of Operation Clean
Sweep has been heavy, and our interview schedule continues to grow
across the Commonwealth. But we can't get this mission accomplished
alone - we need your help.

Here are a few suggestions on what you, the individual citizen, can
do to help us make a Clean Sweep of the General Assembly in 2006:

1) The best way you can help right now is to email all your friends a
message telling them about our mission and include the
www.pacleansweep.com address.

2) We also have our 'No Sheep' icon available in downloadable format
on the 'Grassroots' page at www.pacleansweep.com so you can print it
with your own home computer. Make signs for your front window at
home, stickers for your bumper, rent a billboard, take out a
newspaper ad do or anything else you can think of with the icon.

We'd like to see that sheep grazing all across Pennsylvania before
next year's election to remind people to not vote for any incumbents.
Inform the incumbents that you are NOT a sheep and that they've
crossed the line this time!

We've also made the icon available to anyone who wishes to profit by
making 'Sheep' items for sale. Make money and do what's right for
Pennsylvania at the same time by 'Spreading the Sheep'! We do have a
few rules regarding the use of the icon, so please contact us at
info@pacleansweep.com if you'd like to make a little money with it.
The only limitation is your imagination! We'll even post a link on
the OCS website so others across Pennsylvania can purchase your
products!

3) Also, please sign up to join the OCS Discussion Group, if you
haven't done so already. With over 180 members and growing, we've
been sharing some great ideas for advancing this movement. Click
the 'Discussion' link on any page at www.pacleansweep.com.

4) And of course, there's always actual word of mouth. Tell your co-
workers, friends and family members that for once, we might actually
be able to make headway for the hard working taxpayers of
Pennsylvania and take OUR government back.

5) You probably heard about Operation Clean Sweep on the radio, on
TV, or in the newspaper. Those media outlets probably found out about
us through someone just like you. Why not call your local talk radio
show to discuss OCS? How about writing a letter to the editor of your
newspaper describing your outrage over the pay raises and how you
believe in the goals of OCS? Or call your local TV station? If you do
any of these things, please be sure to specifically mention the
www.pacleansweep.com website address.

Folks, the success of Operation Clean Sweep is entirely up to you. No
one is going to wave a magic wand and make it happen for you. It will
take a concrete effort on YOUR part in your own community to carry
out this mission for the next sixteen months.

Beyond these individual actions, we have openings across Pennsylvania
for County Coordinators. All we ask of our County Coordinators is to
dedicate 1-2 hours per week to the OCS effort. No phone calls, no
knocking on doors, no hassle. You can do it right from your own home.
Email info@pacleansweep.com with "County Coordinator" in the subject
line to inquire further about these positions.

Lastly, we are actively seeking qualified candidates to run against
the incumbents. Maybe you know someone who has run for office in the
past, or maybe you know an honest person who wants to turn things
around for Pennsylvania. Or perhaps, you may be interested in running
for office yourself.

We are a non-partisan movement, and as such we are searching for
Republicans, Democrats, Independents, as well as third party
candidates. Please point any prospective candidates to
www.pacleansweep.com's 'Be A Candidate' page or contact us at
info@pacleansweep.com for more information.

That's what YOU can do for now. If there is anything else we need in
the future, we'll be sure to let you know! To close, we'll give you a
few impressive statistics regarding the first week of Operation Clean
Sweep:

133694 hits on the Operation Clean Sweep website
13128 unique visitors to the Operation Clean Sweep website
555 other PACleanSweepers just like you who receive OSC Alerts
184 members in the PACleanSweep discussion group
412 messages posted on the PACleanSweep discussion group
47 prospective county coordinators
12 official county coordinators
27 prospective candidates
3 declared candidates
at least 3 more candidates with declarations "in the mail"

We urge you to join us on this important mission and reach out to
everyone you know to tell them about Operation Clean Sweep and
www.pacleansweep.com. We need more founding fathers for a NEW
Pennsylvania. (Founding mothers are equally welcome!) Don't forget
to 'Spread the Sheep' and vote for 'the other guy'...

Sincerely,
Your PACleanSweep Team
